Pro-Life Group up in Arms over Krispy Kreme's Abortion Doughnuts By Kyle Munzenrieder in Politicks Thursday, Jan. 15 2009 @ 1:16PM Krispy Kreme, being the genial purveyor of glazed goodness that it is, decided to get in on the Obama inauguration craze and is offering one free doughnut to every costumer on January 20, Inauguration day, and released this seemingly innocuous press release:
"Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, Inc. (NYSE: KKD) is honoring American's sense of pride and freedom of choice on Inauguration Day, by offering a free doughnut of choice to every customer on this historic day, Jan. 20. By doing so, participating Krispy Kreme stores nationwide are making an oath to tasty goodies -- just another reminder of how oh-so-sweet 'free' can be."........ blogs.miaminewtimes.com
Pro-Life Group Declares Victory in War on Doughnuts By Kyle Munzenrieder in News Monday, Jan. 19 2009 @ 12:10PM
Despite the fact that just about every reasonable person on either side of the debate who read the American Life League's breathless press release about Krispy Kreme doughnut's liberal use of the word "choice" in a press release thought they must be either insane or joking, ALL persisted. And now, they've got the appology from Krispy Kreme they were seeking.
"The use of the phrase "freedom of choice" by any corporation, particularly when used to coincide with President-elect Obama's inauguration, is offensive and demeaning to the millions who have suffered either directly or indirectly through abortion. Abortion is a tragedy for everyone involved in it. Thus we felt obligated to issue our original statement and subsequently communicate with Krispy Kreme Inc. blogs.miaminewtimes.com
KUDOS TO KRISPY KREME! Posted: Monday January 19, 2009 at 10:50 am EST by Judie Brown Send an e-mail to a friend about this article!
American Life League's press release of this past Thursday started a chain of events that is both heartwarming and instructive. And, if I may say, it was also an eye-opener for me, as never before in my 37 years of pro-life activity have I been described in so many unflattering ways. Practically every epithet, from “wing nut,” to “nut case,” was used, including a few I cannot repeat. It seems some people just didn’t appreciate the fact that we take our work seriously, especially when it comes to helping others see the power of words.
It should be clear by now that American Life League did not attack Krispy Kreme Doughnut Corporation; we simply pointed out that we were hoping that Krispy Kreme made an honest public relations gaffe. And as it turns out, that was indeed the case.
After communicating with Krispy Kreme staffers and explaining why we were so concerned about their poor choice of words........ all.org
