From The Associated Press
RAVENSWOOD, W.Va. (AP) - The efforts of state and federal officials weren't enough to save 120 jobs that Century Aluminum plans to cut from its Ravenswood plant.

Company spokesman Mike Dildine says 100 hourly workers and 20 salaried employees will be laid off Feb. 15. They were working on a production line shut down in December.

Dildine says the company is proposing a 12.4 percent pay cut for the remaining 560 or so employees.

Officials around the state have been working to keep the plant open since Monterey, Calif.-based Century announced the plummeting price of aluminum has put the facility at risk of closing.
