On the other hand, if the economic crisis worsens or another major terror attack happened soon after Bush departs the White House, he may be “Hooverized” – with a generation of Democratic politicians running successfully against his memory as they did against Herbert Hoover whose policies were linked to the Great Depression. Funny historical fact -- Hoover was very popular in the 1910s as the food administrator for the Wilson administration. That was when the term "Hooverized" was coined, and it meant something like to make sure food got to the place it was needed. People didn't know what party he belonged to, and in 1920, some Democrats tried to nominate him as their presidential candidate. They put together some state campaigns and got some people to commit as his delegates for the 1920 Democratic primaries. However, he then announced he was a Republican. Interesting view of the man..... During the depression, he actually tried to do the right thing......he figured if he balanced the budget and kept deficits low, the economy would right itself. Of course, it didn't and he lost his job as commander-in-chief.
