A tip for you. Check your SS statement for mistakes in your name and address. Mine had a dropped letter, the first letter of my first name. It caused a lot of trouble when I went to renew my driver's license.

If you find any mistakes, get them fixed before you apply for benefits. It will save a lot of grief.

I need to do that. They have a letter in my name wrong. An "e" instead of an "o"

Found out about it when I tried to e-file my tax return and it was rejected because my info on the return did not match the SS database associated with my number. Problem is, I have to go into an office to do this, and the nearest office is 50 miles away. Of course, they're only open on weekdays, so I have to take time away from work to correct their mistake.
