In my office we use AutoCAD R12 and have been eagerly awaiting R13. The problems are these:

* Necessary to upgrade to Win95 or NT (also Oracle 7.0 if RMDBS is needed).

* New commands and modified commands require transition time for end users.

* EED (Extended Entity Data) of existing R12 data needs to be converted to R13 standards. No utilities are included for this transition.

* Patches C1, C2, C3 and especially C4 are major changes to the original release and cummulatively represent a significantly different product than the original.

Did Autodesk rush R13 to market? Not in two and a half years they didn't. I don't blame anyone using releases of AutoCAD prior to and including R12 to stick with what works and wait until all of these patches have been flushed out of the pipeline (Autodesk contends that C4 is the last, however, that's what they said about C3!)

A friend bought ADSK @ 23 and held when it went to the low thirties. She wishes she had sold now. I don't blame her, the next time ADSK reaches the thirties again may be when Autodesk releases R14.

Sincerely,

Charles R.
