FDR did little better, under him unemployment recovered from over 20% to just over 15% in 1940, much because of increased arms production

We went over this a few weeks ago. The unemployment rate had dropped, I believe, to 10% by 1937 only to rise again to 18% due a recession that occurred that year only to resume its downward trajectory the next year. Certainly, the need for armaments in Europe helped but it was also an economy that was recovering due to FDR's stimulus plan.
