Well, I agree with Buddy that getting elected President will accomplish more for the citizens of Illinois than would any legislation (vbg).

I suppose accomplishments have to be meaasured various ways. Having your name on a bill that has to climb through Committee, then get scheduled for vote takes years for "normal" legislation. As a junior senator he was not in a position to push forward anything his "seniors" didn't want pushed.

semantics aside, getting elected President is far and away the best evidence of political achievement. I suppose if only legislative achievement is how we measure, then Teddy Kennedy and Rober Byrd or Mitch McConnell would be seen as high achieveres..their names are on lots of bills that became laws. So what? They can't change a thing tomorrow. Obama can, and will, change thousands of things.

Regardless of what he did as a senator, he got elected President. In the next ten days he will have more effect through executive orders than did ANY senator through legislative action in the last thirty years. Presidents always do. So I agree with Buddy. Senators want to be President so they dont' have to play all the parlor games to make laws. They just exercise power.....and the President has a lot.

I am sure Mr. Obama will appreciate the expanded executive argued and delivered by the Bush/Cheney administration.
