Intel to stop operations at five facilities

INTC 13.26, +0.40, +3.1%) on Wednesday said it will stop production at five factories in a bid to consolidate manufacturing operations. The chip maker said the affected facilities include two in Penang, Malaysia, one in Cavite, Philippines, a facility in Hillsboro, Oregon and one in Santa Clara, Calif. The changes could affect between 5,000 and 6,000 employees, although not all of them will be asked to leave the company, Intel said
