Japan started to go down and the world followed when Horie of Livedoor fame was arrested on trumped up charges because he was disrupting the old boys' club with his globalized Lehman-backed financial relativity theory takeovers of corporate Japan.

Of course Japan started going down many years before that in 1990, but hassling Horie didn't help.
