I picked up my neighbors paper while he was gone and was shocked at the lack thinness. No ads! I just got the latest copy of Scientific American and same thing - thin because there were no ads. This week's New Yorker was much thinner than usual. I haven't checked the text/ad ratio to see if it's less but I suspect you are right.
