Geithner paid the employment taxes on the nanny. That situation, I believe, was that in the multi-year employment, her work permit had expired (was not renewed) for the last 3 months. So from the portion I quoted, he didn't hire an illegal. Her work permit expired.

He could have fired her. Made sure she went back to her home country.

But she got married and stayed here anyway. I guess you think he should have broken up the wedding plans. Or figured out a way to send her and her husband out of the country for 3 months.
