I don't think it matters if Obama understands the situation, though I give him more credit than you. There's little or nothing the government can do about the current crisis other than make things worse over the long term even if it stabilizes things in the short term. The market is going to have to clear over time. That includes all the wreckage that results down the line from all these short term fixes.
