And one more thing; We are becoming sicker by living in sterile homes. They now have hints that asthma and allergies in kids may be from not being dirty enough. Their immune systems have not been fully developed.

That's the only reason I can figure that kids today seem to have so many allergies and other disorders that I hardly remember hearing about 30-40 years ago.

I also grew up with a street full of kids who were always on their bikes without helmets, but none ever had an accident requiring more than a band-aid. Of course, I ride with a helmet now, but back then I wasn't doing 20mph on a narrow trail with other bikers coming at me at the same speed.

There is definitely a line of overprotection that many parents seem to cross.
