17 years is the minimum he will serve. Yes, it is a good deal for him, but he is likely to cause more problems in prison and do life there.

I have seen worse, but they likely used intoxication and emotional rage as mitigating factors. There must have been quite a bit more that came out in the trial that of which we aren't aware.

However, let us not get too carried away here. After all it was only a woman. If the killer were a muslim he may have got off with time served. TIC
