Around the same time I spent $31.94 each for a case of Penfold's Bin 707 1988. I still have a bottle or two of it. It is quite nice and was a great gift wine.

I also acquired several bottles of very rare 1987 Haut Brion Blanc for the same exact price which was outrageously delicious.

The 1988 Latour was $61.77 and the 1989 Laffite was $95.85. I drank one bottle of each young and they showed excellent potential.

For me under $10 for a decent to very good wine was cheap. To compare to other Chardonnays bought around the same time:
Clos du Bois Flintwood 1988 $15.96
Kalin Cellary Cuvee LV 1988 $21.29
Ridge Howell Mountain 1990 $13.83
Ferrari-Carano Alexander 1989 $10.64

The first two were better, the Ridge was similar and the Ferrari-Carano was too acidic and bitter comparatively. I drank all of the bottles of all of them over ten years ago.
