Was at a party today and spoke briefly to a lawyer at the SEC. He said that (a) he was relieved that Bush is out and that Obama and a new SEC chief are in (b) Chris Cox was not as bad as everyone said, but rather, he was hamstrung by a pro-business executive branch. This lawyer did say that he wished that Cox had explained in greater detail what aspects Madoff had registered with the SEC and what he didn't. I mentioned the Markolpolus (sp?) letters, and he said that was true, and he was not sure what was done about that.
