The China currency opera....why do I get the strong feeling this whole thing is scripted already, for the purposes of forestalling any 'protectionist' expressions in the US and possibly providing the PRC government with an external problem to point to to deflect suggestions they may not want to do.

Certain groups don't want a close review of NAFTA, the WTO rules, and many other items. So bring up China's currency, get a predictable (if not pre-agreed) reaction, and then wave the "China will dump all the T-bills" threat, and send the "protectionists" running.

As if China would trash their own assets - assets (especially the longer term) that have been going up in value as interest rates dropped and the US Dollar is relatively stronger.

Does someone really expect China to shoot itself in the foot like that ?

Opps, I forgot, Taiwan is part of China, so there are some people that stupid....

Now look at who gets a free ride on this - Japan, who really manipulates their currency far more than anyone else.
