Casella Waste Systems to Implement Additional 200 Units of OPS-1 On-board Oil Refining System
Tuesday 01/27/2009 8:45 AM ET - Businesswire

As of 12:08 PM ET 1/27/09
Oil Purification Systems (OPS) (www.ops-1.com), developer and manufacturer of the OPS-1(TM) on-board oil refining system, today announced that Casella Waste Systems, Inc. (www.casella.com), a leading provider of solid waste, recycling and resource management services in the Northeast, has completed the installation of an additional 200 units of the OPS-1 system to the company's off-highway and industrial engines. This will bring Casella's total number of installed OPS-1 systems to more than 1,000 units. The company expects to save over 55,000 gallons of oil and $600 per vehicle each year.

Gary Simmons, Casella's vice president of fleet management, said, "OPS came in on-time and on-budget with the first phase of implementation, so it was an easy decision for us to implement the system on our off-highway and industrial equipment. The OPS-1 implementation also gives us the ability to have an immediate impact on both the environment and our resource conservation goals, without having to wait months or even years for the real benefits to kick in. We view OPS as a trusted supplier working in partnership with the Casella team."

This agreement marks the second phase of Casella's OPS-1 implementation. The company outfitted more than 800 trucks in its fleet last year, and quickly saw the benefits of the OPS-1 system in extending the life of the engines' oil, while also reducing the company's oil maintenance and consumption costs. The second phase of the implementation focused on Casella's off-highway and industrial engines used by landfills, transfer stations and recycling centers. Even with such a large and diverse mix of equipment, the OPS-1 system is versatile enough to work efficiently on various engines.

Greg Slawson, OPS chief operating officer, said, "Casella is extremely active in identifying and implementing technologies that are both good for the environment, and can also save the company money. We were able to provide Casella with a turnkey solution that is easy for the company to budget, reduces their environmental impact, and ultimately allows them to invest more readily in recycling and other resource renewal strategies."

Casella estimates that the use of the OPS-1 system on 1,000 of its vehicles, and the resulting reduction in the use of engine lubricants, will reduce the company's greenhouse gas emissions by over 26 metric tons of CO2 equivalents annually by avoiding the manufacturing, transportation and disposal of oil and oil filters.
