The explanation for yesterday's runup in the Wave share price could be today's release by the TCG of the final OPAL specification:

uk.sys-con.com

trustedcomputinggroup.org

Wave has issued its own press release concerning this new specification:

finance.yahoo.com

So has Fujitsu:

marketwatch.com

There is nothing surprising in these developments, since a draft OPAL specification has been available for a while:

trustedcomputinggroup.org

Wave has been directly involved:

trustedcomputinggroup.org

Wave offers the most comprehensive management solution for hardware FDE drives compliant with the new OPAL specification, although some existing software FDE providers have also included the capability to manage hardware FDE in their programs.

The existence of a final consensus specification for hardware FDE should encourage broader deployment, which would certainly be a favorable development and translate into meaningful revenue for Wave. But the issuance of a final OPAL specification is not unexpected, and we have learned in the past that offering a superior solution does not necessarily translate into immediate sales.
