>>>My prediction: at Comdex Rocket will be introduced in a glass box with a target shipping date of "mid 1998". Then in August of 1998, it will be pushed back to the "end of the year" due to extended beta testing. Then in November 1998, Rocket will be shown at Comdex with a higher price tag and a shipping date of "first quarter 1999". By then, it will have to compete with the 4gig Jaz drive which has an installed base of some 5,000,000 (older) Jaz drives.
Yikes<<<
I remember a number of IOMegans stating the same thing about the Syjet in about May or June of 1996. I think they called it "vaporware" at that time. You sound just like them. I know that they wish that the the Syjet had remained vaporware, since impartial critics have overwhelmingly rated it superior to the Jaz. With Jaz 2 slated to be released soon, I bet they are hoping that SYQT delays the release of the Rocket. I doubt that Jaz 2 would have been released this soon except for the introduction of the Syjet. What is IOM going to do to retain market share when the Rocket is released? Maybe N-hand will save them. BTW, I have seen the Rocket in action up close, so I don't think that they will need to put it in a glass box. I'm sure that the one they have at Comdex will be fully functional. I wonder what the installed base of Syjets will be by that time? Probably zero according to you. |
