Is that vile as in the sense of Paul Begala? Or Serpent-head Carville? They're political operatives. It ain't softball.<<

There is light years of difference between Begala and Atwater which apprently you do not appreciate.

Atwater was an SOB, Begala is a decent man.

It is the same difference in attitude, between liberals and conservatives regarding Gitmo and torture. The Gallup poll said 35% want Gitmo shut down, 45% didn't and 20% were not sure.

The poll also said it was almost all liberals who wanted Gitmo shut down, less moderates and almost no conservatives.

Just as we liberals will not abide torture, so we will not abide the suspension of habeus corpus which undermines our constituion and all laws of decency.

But we do not know what is wrong with people who do not see how evil torture is, or the suspension of the consitutional right to due process of the law.

As they say, he who sacrifices freedom for security, ends up with neither.

Nice that we now have a brave president rather than chicken hawks like Bush and Cheney who is not afraid to extend his hand in freindship to the muslim world for instance and Russia whihc just caused them to announce they were pulling back their missles.

At last our esteem in the world is rising again.
