Actually what is probably going to happen is terrific inflation; and inflation, on the whole, tends to transfer real wealth from older to younger generations. It's not an even or fair or rational transfer, but on the whole an energetic up-and-coming young person is more likely to benefit from inflation than anyone on a more or less fixed pension. Inflation-indexing of Social Security mitigates this somewhat.

To say this is not to praise inflation. Inflation is demoralizing, unfair, and fundamentally dishonest. But it appears that this will be the inevitable outcome of current fiscal and monetary policy. Or should we say piracy.
