I imagine that we are on a boat that has a bilge full of water and a leak, heading into high seas. Intelligent people can differ on the long term solution, such as fixing the leak, preventing the leak, none of which deal with 20000 gallons of water pulling us down.

I personally would have rather had a focused spending package but that isn't what is coming at us. We only have a couple of options and in heavy seas, that 20000 gallons of water is going to be a problem. Republicans talk about a better bilge pump, I'm talking about immediate massive bailing, and Democrats seem to want to paint the rusty hulk and replace hull sections. The current solutions aren't necessarily wrong, they just aren't timely or focused on the problem at hand.

I refer to this post I posted to VINTER...

Tax cuts are just way too slow. Improved health care benefits will help a sector that isn't in death spiral like the manufacturing sector. Giving money to the banks doesn't make the two thirds of our consumer economy more active. People like me are holding off on their purchases because we don't like what we see. People like me (and companies) won't buy the guitar, car or washing machine (or, in the case of businesses, capital equipment) until we are pretty sure we are NOT going to be dashed on the rocks.
