A lot of Post Offices are pork. Now that we have them and people have settled in, I hate to lose them. Some of the proprietors are just little people with no other income.

You see Post Offices in the strangest places. I know of one in Ross's Hole, where Lewis and Clark camped for a night or two in 1805. Charlie Russell painted a picture of it and it's not much different now. It's surrounded by pasture land and woodland. A semi-paved road goes by, leading to some mini-ranches and homesteads, including where my brother's elk hunting camp is. That's where those people pick up their mail.

We were sitting around the fire drinking coffee and chewing the fat when a UPS truck drove by delivering a package. I kid you not, this was a tent camp with some cabins and a few permanent homes nearby. It's about 25 miles to the nearest town, and ten miles to that post office in Ross's Hole.
