Franken lawyer plays up shift in Coleman strategy

ST. PAUL - An attorney for Al Franken is painting Norm Coleman as an opportunist fishing for votes in his effort to bring more disputed absentee ballots into their U.S. Senate race.

Franken attorney David Lillehaug questioned Deputy Secretary of State Jim Gelbmann closely on Thursday in the trial of Coleman's post-recount lawsuit.

Lillehaug highlighted e-mails and documents from Coleman's attorneys that he says show Coleman's position on absentees shifting.

Franken, the Democrat, leads Republican Coleman by 225 votes after a statewide recount. A key part of Coleman's lawsuit is his effort to get a three-judge panel to
