I know you hate government in all its shapes and forms, but government is necessary. The DoE is necessary to set standards and to set policies that establish the rules of the game. If what you want is a laissez faire energy economy, then we'll be right back to the days of Enron. No thanks.

If you want a level playing field, then someone needs to be the referee and the enforcer. Government has historically played that role, and it's a useful role at that. Small and efficient is the key, not elimination.
