I hate to rain on your parade but this is simply bogus. Stolen ammunition will implicate people that had it stolen. With the sneak and peak laws in place, someone could take a round out of my gun cabinet and frame me for a murder. No other evidence needed other than the bullet was purchased by me.
Also, not to be too paranoid, but right now when they arrest someone, the police basically take all the person's stuff and MAY return it when the DA decides the case is weak. Who's going to miss a couple of rounds from a box of .357 rounds, substituted with another round. So, while in the custody of the police, they have access to almost unlimited amounts of compatible ammo that implicates someone else in every shooting death..
So, now you have a situation where the police have the means, motive and opportunity to frame anyone they want, they shoot you in the head with my bullet - and poof, two problems go away. Case closed. The street market for illegally acquired ammo stolen from Wal-mart and Big 5 create "noise" because the police won't be looking for weapons anymore, they will be looking for histories on bullets.
Anyone with a bullet mold can make a bullet. It is the stuff of grade school chemistry. A Bunsen burner and some solder is all that is required. Pry off the bullet, replace it with your freshly cast bullet, you're done. These were engineered to have loose tolerances, so you don't even have to be good at it. |
