I have found it is almsot impossible for hard core conservative's like yourself and hard core liberals like me to communicate,
I find no difficulty in communicating. I can see that you might find it uncomfortable, as you appear to conflate feelings with reasoning. Saying that someone like Lee Atwater is "vile" tells us nothing other than that you have a personal dislike for the man. We might think otherwise if you gave us an idea of the vile acts you believe that he committed, but you didn't.
The 60's was a very important era as the first global existential movement in the history of mankind.
Yeah, yeah, we all remember the hyperbole that surrounded our youth. I was there, too, koan, but I see no reason to keep repeating the nonsense that was invented about the 60s. Clever advertisers used it to appeal to our youthful vanity, telling us what a special generation we were. But time moves on, and there are new generations that think that they are special. Hopefully most of them won't still be worshipping their youth 40 years later, telling themselves that the being the first globally wired cyberspace generation made them special. One insufferable generation each century is enough.
We have different peceptions of reality. I do consider the democrats to have more compassion than Republican
Well of course. One band of Amazonian bushmen think that they're superior to the band downstream. Just substitute cooler parrot feathers for the preening claims of superiority in "bigotry, sexism, racism" and the all the other vain prattle that liberals imagine about themselves and you have the same dynamic.
The pretentious moral posturing is nothing new, the Puritans tried it already. What you need to do is to realize that your affections of moral superiority have no more substance than theirs did. My parakeet admires himself endlessly in his mirror. It doesn't make him morally superior to the other parakeets. It just means he's a birdbrain. |
