I was a big boxing fan. There were three Johannsen-Patterson fights i believe. They were blacked out but i listened to the first one on the radio. Legendary announcer Les Keiter did the call. First round, first fight, he knocks down patterson. I remember Keiter saying Patterson Up, then IJ hits him again, Patterson down, patterson up, patterson down. Following saturday i took the subway to NYC to watch the film at a movie theater. I remember this clearer than i remember what i ate for dinner last night.
PS There was a bit of racism back then as many americans were kind of happy the white guy won. I took note of that then. Even NY was so physically, spiritually and econmicly segregated back then that i cant say that i didnt feel some of it at the time. It is amazing how far we have come from those dark days of the 1950s. Those are the days your buds like inode glorify, because america was so good back then. If you want to glorify 50s and greatest generation, lets not forget the warts.
