Dax, about 1/3 of AMAT's revenues used to be in DRAMs. As the money coming from those Chips dwindle, the company found new income from faster moving Chips. By maintaining lots of Cash at all times (they have $1.1 B this time), they were able to to acquire new markets thru small company acquisitions at bargain prices...Another company, INTC, is also showing us how superior companies operate:---they are Postponing the operation of their Texas facility that is supposed to manufacture Flash Memory Chips that are falling in prices, to shift money to Israel where they can manufacture said chips at the same time make faster revenue generating Chips (the faster selling Chips for the under $1,000 computer could be foremost in their minds)...All in all, said two companies are very successful in maintaining their leaderships in their respective fields...
