NYRB new issue i received today actually has a featured article titled "Eyeless in Gaza" By Roger Cohen a NYT/InternationHeraldTribune journalist, i seems what i call a moderate zionist, the we can have a peace, yes we can, type, well Gaza got him to write things he never wrote before. i quote verbatum "I have never previously felt so despondent about Israel, so shamed by its action, so despairing of any peace might terminate the dominion of the dead for the opportunity of the living. More than dreams, I've been having nightmares....." His nightmares being the hate hate hate generated towards the Israelis by Gaza will be deep and lasting, that peace hopes seem gone. He writes that never have the Israeli Arabs shown such unity in anger against Israel.. But the key thing he concedes is Israel MUST MUST recognize both Hamas and Hezbollah. He says the belief they are breaking Hamas is DELUSIONAL, that they must be recognized as the palestinians democratic choice and dealt with NOT as a terrorist group--the same goes for Hezbollah. Signifigance of this, this is well beyond what this guy has written before, to my knowledge, that is.
But what was the immediate program for Envoy Mitchell, to talk with Israeli government and with the QUISLING Abbas, and his cronies, while NOT a word with those criminal terrorist Hamas!!! In other words, Mitchell has the same old script in hand, nothing has changed. Max |
