It would interesting to see some actual field research on illegal alien hiring in various places at various times, to pin down the issue whether they displaced willing American workers or filled jobs no one wanted; and the impact on wages. I suspect that designing an accurate real-world study would be extremely difficult given all the variables involved. I'd love to see some that go beyond an op-ed piece.

So people go at it with deductive arguments, make assumptions and point fingers of blame accordingly. This is one where I would want to see objective facts in a broad framework - not just anecdotes - to draw a firm conclusion.

It would be ironic if there were white legal workers turning down "menial" jobs in good times then finding those jobs no longer exist as an alternative once economic circumstances make them more appealing.
