Actually, in some ways it tones it down. The KKK lost a lot of membership during the depression. I went and looked it up, because I'd thought it was the opposite, but it wasn't. Most people pull together in tough times. So that's actually a good thing. Maybe. Year Membership 1920 4,000,000 1924 6,000,000 1930 30,000 1980 5,000 2008 6,000 Seems almost like boom times feed hate, and hard times kill it.
