A drop in the bucket perhaps. And it assumes, i.e. Gordon Brown, that the Euros got the best value for their paper gold. Government officials predicting accurately market movement? I think not.

Let us look back in six months and see where gold is and then make an opinion about the merit of an active central bank timing the market with the sale of one of their most solid assets.

IMO, it was yet another attempt to hide monetary expansion that failed. There will be more attempts and I expect they will fail in a spectacular fashion, for the simple reason that printing is coming and in force not seen ever before. It has to be that way, or accept that a system, now global, that is predicated on "forever inflation" will implode on itself, just as it is right now.
