You don't get from microbe to backbones by reshuffling genes, sexually or otherwise. Conventional wisdom is that you need mutations. As you probably know the major problem with "evolution by natural selection" has always been genes arent' selected for... Morphology is. That is the thrust of evo-devo and there is a MAJOR feud going on in scientific evolutionary circles between evo-devo and previously accepted science. DAK
