In July we were right in the middle of the severest recession since the 1930s minneapolisfed.org Look at these charts from the Minneapolis Fed to compare the current recession to those in the past. In July, the economy sat between mildest and median. you didn't even recognize it as a recession. True and accurate recognition at that point is impossible.
