thank you all for the description of money and velocity. It is an interesting concept and leads to lots of other questions which I will search out on my own.

I think households at the lower levels are spending everything they can get their hands on just to sustain.

Probably soon if not already, most credit cards will be maxed out, and then the question is how many will be forgiven.

I almost feel like a fool for paying my mortgage on time every month (as well as paying extra toward the principle most months) as well as haveing NO credit card debt.

I sleep well at night, but I feel that people like me are going to not be seeing the benefits of those less fortunate or less disciplined.

I know it is crazy, but I have had thoughts creep into my mind suggesting that maybe I should not make it look too easy ... pay a few months late, run up some debt and then ask one of those programs to settle the debt 50 cents on the dollar...etc. etc...
