In re the 30s comparisons - another difference is how severe drought devastated much of inland Canada and the US, at a time when populations were far more agrarian in percentage, and infrastructure less developed, this came on top of economic rundown and aggravated life greatly ... now we have better farming practices, alternate food sources, and likely more irrigation would help some ... serious drought would still hurt, does hurt some places at times, but not like it did then and not as widespread |
