Christine, Stopped in with my morning coffee while the rest of the house sleeps, intending to say a cheerful hi! Instead, I've been roaming the dark posts of the weekend. Oh,dear-it brought me up short to be reminded that the luxury of emotions does come with certain responsibilities-that there are many who are struggling at the very base of Maslowe's Hierarchy for pure survival while we at the pinnacle spend hours examining the tiniest fluctuations in our psyche's well-being. Yet it is our attainment of that stage that allows us to respond in some way to the pain around us. It is too easy and convenient to be overwhelmed and feel impotent- and I need to remind myself that from the place I am, my contribution is to raise morally responsible children who will NOT be the destroyers but the builders and the healers, a seemingly small, not very "global" task but one which I take very seriously. For all the eloquent speakers and writers, for all the important-sounding, often self-serving verbosity that one encounters daily, it is sometimes hard to remember that it is the small and tedious daily steps forward on all our parts that will make the difference. ah--on to a cheerful Labor Day... So how the heck are you! penni
