Also, you can't eat gold or oil... Just for diversification, the grains appear to be a viable investment. Given the low grains inventory supply, growing world population, shrinking farmland, credit crunch impact on farm loans, and ongoing/possible climate change (and I am not talking about global warming but rather drought and other unfavorable growing conditions), grains may well outperform.
