not constrained by the dogma and fears of religion I had as a child and student

That's kind of what I figured. May I ask what exactly were you afraid of? Perhaps your childhood fears were a result of a poor, childish understanding of the nature of God.

Do you think those childhood fears are still inside you somewhere and your atheism is a way of coping with and suppressing them? It's good you've admitted your atheism is emotionally, not rationally, driven. That was obvious.

....I am free of the biases and bigotries of organized religion

What biases and bigotries did you formerly have that are gone now?

...and that makes me a more objective and smarter fellow

You're wrong there. You've merely found a way to deny your fears. In fact, admitting your atheism is driven by a desire to free yourself from childhood fears shows that you're NOT objective about this. Be smart enough to recognize that.

.... I've learned about all sorts of cultures and places in the world that many are frightened of and will never see and learn about.

What does that have to do with your childhood faith and your atheism?
