ASX adds precious metals
February 2, 2009

businessday.com.au

The Australian Securities Exchange has added precious metals platinum, paladium and silver as securities available for trading.

Investors can invest in the three metals individually, a basket of all three, or gold, which has been availbable since 2003, through a new trading platform to be known as the AQUA market, the Sydney-based ASX said in a statement today.

The AQUA market is a platform tailored for managed funds and structured products.

"The AQUA platform provides investors with a greater breadth and variety of products tradeable on the ASX,'' ASX general manager for equity markets Richard Murphy said in the statement.

"Given the increasing interest in commodities as an investment, this suite of precious metals products should prove attractive to investors and their advisers.''
