The gold standard that the left seems to be striving for is the strangulation of the medical industry in a Hillary / Ira Magaziner Care where providing healthcare outside of the government system would be felony crime.

I don't think that is their intent, at least not many of them. I think that the mean well. I expect it would end up as you say if we take their path, although perhaps not in their lifetimes, but I don't think they have set that as an objective. I expect that they are simply incapable of getting past their vision of all of us hanging out and holding hands at the doctor's office of our choice and giving their proposals the needed cold, hard look into how they might evolve. They see only the current shortfall and assume that fixing it would produce utopia.
