As a shibboleth to distinguish Christianity from anything other than Christianity that seems to capture the fundamental difference. However, if you put ten educated Christians into one room to interpret it's meaning and application you would likely see differences among them.

The thing is, decent adults require a sound system of principle to guide them in life. To some extent we each author and continually revise our own as we acquire experience. Individually to a greater or lesser degree we pick up an authoritative guide so's not to be reinventing the wheel, while maintaining the freedom to interpret experience and the application of principle as we go. We use our parents as models, heroes as examples, various teachings as food for thought, and Religions which offer that authoritative guidance.

One, among many, of the bones you are picking here has to do with forgiveness. Well, even with the limitation of being human most of us can agree that when a person has committed a wrong there is room in our hearts for forgiveness under the proper circumstance...1) He acknowledges the offence, 2) expresses intent to do well going forward, even resolving or reconciling the damage done to his ability, 3) He demonstrably conducts him self in such a matter, so as to prove his improved condition... who among us wouldn't forgive such a creature? This all the while knowing we can be fooled by having the proverbial wool pulled over our eyes. Now since we attribute all knowingness to the God of Christianity, that wool pulling wouldn't be an issue.
