CNBC says harry reid expects a vote on stim bill today as is. If this passes as is, can they still add new items in conference with house? Maybe thats the strategy. Pass it by party line and a few reps in senate. Then in conference good dems take out and add per obama input?? That might be a great political outcome for obama and a brilliant political move.

I hope Reid has the votes lined up and the GOPers don't play the same trick they did with the TARP. Frankly I think the dems screwed this up badly. This bill should have been very clean...instead they behaved as typical politicians do and added items that in the end represented small amounts of money but gave the reps a perfect platform to bash them with and take the initiative away from them. Now they are losing many of these questionable provisions anyway and the bill has stalled as a result. Both Reid and Pelosi ought to lose their jobs over this...and Obama has done a poor job too of explaining things to the public. Even this Washington op ed piece is full of abstractions. He needs to do a Reagan style oval office address to the nation...complete with slides and pie charts, classifying all expenses into buckets...tax cuts, infrastructure, extended support for folks who've lost their jobs, banking relief, mortgage relief, etc...and then show the "pork" too...show what's left and what's been removed and then put it in terms of % of total dollars. C'mon man...take the initiative away from these stinking beaurocrats. Damn...
