Well first Stein; It is exactly what he said Saturday on Fox. He said we need to huge amounts of money into our system and that we should loan money to anyone ANYONE who would take the money.

I saw something this morning that labeled Ben Stein a comedian. So let's just say he was trying to be funny with that comment. And probably ridiculing the Obama proposal.

If I understand your paragraph about Krugman correctly, what bothers you is anything beyond infrastructure spending and, possibly, tax cuts.

And that's where we disagree. There are two large arguments for having spending beyond infrastructure. The first is, of course, those kinds of spending tend to come on line slowly. Much of the other spending is justified by this need for immediate spending.

The second is that one of the urgent items right now is to provide support for those suffering the most from the economic downturn, thus to make certain there are sufficient unemployment benefits and health care (medicaid). These are also justified on spending grounds and support for state and local governments.

I don't think Krugman has any other justification. But I haven't read everything he's written on this subject nor seen all his appearances on TV. If you find something, to repeat what I said, please let me know in such a way I can check the context.
