Even America Online added only about 300,000 users during the quarter.

Here is what I found from AOL's press release:

DULLES, VA, September 2, 1997 - America Online [NYSE: AOL], the world's most popular Internet online service, today announced that its membership recently surpassed the nine million mark worldwide, including more than 400,000 net new members since the quarter ending June 30.

That's 400,000 new subs between June 30 and Sept 2 according to AOL

Or maybe ISR has their independent source for AOL's subscriber number...
