If sophisticated winds up being "unsuccessful", that doesn't mean in broad terms its not sophisticated.

Also I'd consider Buffet to be a sophisticated investor. His basic idea is simple, but sophisticated isn't exactly the same as complex, also the determination of when and how he uses his strategy is sophisticated. His research is sophisticated, etc.
