I think you are wrong. Housing triggered banking and then came unemployment but it any case you have to address them all. Fixing banking wont alone get us out of this mess. I listen to many conservative economists say the same thing. It isnt only Krugman. You are right you cant employ everyone but you can do a lot to stop the landslide by shoring up state and muny govt, doing public works projects, incenting certain industries etc. And if you can stop the housing fall, you can put many able bodied men back into construction. The social fabric of this nation can be ripped apart by idle, more or less unskilled workers who can find work in building housing, roads etc.
