James,
I am inclined to agree with your analysis in your second point. What you say makes a lot of sense. That being said, there is nothing stopping anyone who takes note of your scenario from making a barrel of money on this stock. Just bail out when the promotion has hit full swing(evidence of this comes in many forms including a bunch of new people posting unbridled optimism in forums like this). Then if you are so inclined short the hell out of it on the way down.
